What does it mean to be called a ‘Muse”?
As a noun, it means a person — especially a woman — who is a source of artistic inspiration. It seems like the perfect word to encompass this Annual Celebration of Women.
March 8 has been recognized as International Women’s Day since the early 1900’s. International Women's Day celebrates women's achievements in the workplace, and we’ve teamed up with PublicHouse to amplify and acknowledge the inspirational women in our lives, behind our pubs, creating our beer & spirits, feeding us and… performing on our stage.
Live Musical Performances: Prior to 1900 and even after, it was expected that "women would perform music, not make music.” Singing was something of an acceptable pastime for a girl, but playing an instrument….?! Writing songs? Producing records? It wasn’t a thing and, for the most part, women didn’t think of themselves as creators of music. So much has changed. So much will continue to change. Both pubs will be showcasing women-led performances and events throughout the five days, including:
Thursday, March 6: beergarden Live Music with the Elena Leona Project, 7pm
Friday, March 7: PublicHouse Live Music with Maya Vagner, 6pm and The Williwaws, 7:30pm
Saturday, March 8: beergarden Live Music with Alexa Ro, 6pm and Acoustic Minds, 7:30pm
Sunday, March 9: PublicHouse Paint N Sip with Sierra, 12-2pm
Sunday, March 9: PublicHouse Live Music with Joanne Broh Trio, 3:30pm
Drafts by Women: Beergarden has a an excellent crew, and they are lead by 2 amazing women: Deidre and Brianna. It’s not so uncommon these days to see the faces of women behind our beer, and here are just a few that we’ll be featuring on our draft list:
Great Notion Easy Lift IPA (Lead Brewer is Lara Hargrave)
10 Barrel Udderly Proper Nitro Stout (Brewmaster is Tonya Cornett)
Grand Fir Heart Island Coconut Stout (Brewer & Owner is Whitney Burnside)
Seattle Raspberry Blossom Cider (Brewed by Katy Buss)
Boneyard Chainsaw Justice, collab with 3 of BG's female staff :)
